The Rome Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

For four years, from 2004 through 2007, Mary Wald was the public relations partner in the annual Rome Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. Produced by Walter Veltroni, the Mayor of Rome, and former President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, the Summit brought Nobel Peace Prize laureates together from around the world to plan joint actions.
Mary organized and facilitated the summit’s Man of Peace Award, an award to recognize an artist’s outstanding contribution to peace and human rights.
During this time the award was presented to Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Peter Gabriel, Bob Geldof, Don Cheadle and George Clooney.
The award ceremonies during these years resulted in the international press coverage and the first international press exposure of the Summit, with tens of thousands of articles in magazines, papers and news sites, as well as coverage in the entertainment media, morning talk shows and evening news in the US and other countries.
In 2019 Mary once again coordinated the presentation of the Summit Peace Award to Richard Branson.
